Been to Langkawi for Kem Kompetensi Generik and BTN which is an annual program for nursing department UKM for first year and final year student. among the best activities are cooking competition and trip to Pulau Tuba.
1. Cooking competition.
what so great about it? well try imagine cooking in a group with limited of resources and without any means of communication. All. including sign language and even smiling. our group was given a box of cabbage and set of pots for cooking. to get any other ingredient, we need to depend on other groups mercy. I was caught twice for smiling and exempt from cooking works for almost 40% than other team members. I can stand not talking but smiling is a part of my involuntary muscle reflex.
in the end, we successfully cooked a decent meal with nice presentation...only to learn that we can only
have the neighboring group meals. *sigh. I only eat a spoonful of rice with sardine and chicken wing. the rice was under cooked :(
the one that got away~~
but it teaches us the hardship of living in oppressing state, without freedom and to be grateful with what we have.
2. Pulau Tuba
we went by speed boat and was welcome with magnificent view of constelation of island surrounding Pulau Langkawi. We learn the aspect of socio-economy and health of the people in Pulau Tuba. I experienced how to make bahulu from mixing the ingredients all the way to packaging. then, we met Tok Sepura, an elderly who still maintain good health and able to support her own living by making belacan. We were also treated with kampung style cuisine for lunch, fresh coconut juice and biji gajus bakar .
