:: to think and act critically in critical setting ::

assalamualaikum..

Finally!, the internet service here had improve from the speed of turtle to a cheetah!

i'm glad that i love to watch medical dramas. though others will say that i'm such a nerd and my sisters would sigh whenever i change the tv program from reality show to ER, what can i do? i like to keep my brain working. and these TV shows help me to do so.

they will benefits me one day i thought.....sooner or later,

And so it happen. two things occur this week actually. first was a real occasion where a friend was having an 'attack' in the hostel. even though i know what to be done, but my thinking ability seem to be inhibited by panic. i was had just woke up from sleep at that time, not actually fully conscious when i heard my name being called (okay it was my housemate's scream that wokes me up!)....but alhamdulillah, nothing bad happen.  then, come the critical care class last wednesday. the class that really sent shivers down to our spine.

 another critical thinking simulation!

the topic was polytrauma and the Dr keep asking questions that requires logic and good understanding of EVERYTHING that we had learned for the past 3 years. yes, again i'm glad that i LOVE to watch Dr house in action in House MD. series and japanese medical drama Code Blue. it helps me to sharpen critical thinking skills and visualize what an emergency situation will look like. when the Dr bombarded us with 'killer' questions back there, i'm glad that i can still recall what i had learn and what the dramas had taught me. but again, when you are scared, words usually prefer to stay within yourself than being said out loud. so, all of us end up being stutter during that session.

talking about medical dramas, i'm currently 'glued' to my laptop, watching Team Medical Dragon (Iryu), another japanesse drama which revolves on cardiac surgeon (while trying really hard to improves my japanese vocab and pronounciation).  what i like the most about these japannese drama (Code Blue and  Iryu) is that they never fail to include nurses as a part of the medical/surgical team. they really show that nurses are important figure in lifesaving. for example, the character of Saejima Haruka in code blue as an emergency nurse, never fail to attend a patient in critical situation plus able to diagnose a patient in one of the episode and Satohara Miki, a genius scrub nurse who earn respects from surgeons in Iryu. they really inspires me to become a good, professional nurses once i'm qualified. yes i wanted to earn that kind of respect from other healthcare team (daydreaming again ^_^). but sadly, i did not see this kind of teamwork in Malay medical drama (that's why i hardly watch any of them).

a scene in Code Blue displaying multidisciplinary team.

by the way, the class on critical module last wednesday was fun! a lot of hands on activities and we also did a emergency simulation videos (i was laughing hard when i watch it back..)  i'm already fell in love with critical care (don't worry peadiatric, you still have a special place in my heart haha..).

a friend in need is a friend....FOREVER....

assalamualaikum..

today's class was like sitting in the eye of hurricane. everyone was absorbed by a mean monster called assignments. sight of stressful faces never failed to vanish from my field of vision. me too, the memory of receiving bad reviews and on top of that, becoming clueless to answer any questions on the assignments that had been discussed prior to the meeting with our lecturers is certainly NOT a pleasant experience. though the lecturer was really nice and try to brush away the stupor look on our faces, guiding us to understand better about what is really required in this assignment, i felt that like we're still trapped in a maze.

still, Allah had never failed to guide us to right path. He had offered us the gift of friendship. friends who had lend their hands and take us out of this confusing maze, who are always there to help, those who never left others behind. that is why i am always grateful that i had joined nursing course and blessed to meet these wonderful people.

i had said this once and i'll continue to say these:
I LOVE UKM NURSING DEGREE INTAKE 2008/2009SO MUCH!

bagai mahu tersenyum sampai ke telinga.. =)

assalamualaikum...

tak tahu nak cakap ape. rasa nak gugur jantung, sampai sekarang tangan aku menggeletar lagi. Ya Allah!! tak sangka doa aku termakbul...

 MAK....AYAH..!!!
RAINEN NIHON NI IKIMASU!!

hait! this is for real. aku da cuba cubit tangan aku tadi memang ada rasa sakit. maksudnya aku tak mimpi la kan??? aku pun tak percaya lagi sampai sekarang. Ya Allah, ade jugak rezeki aku nak pergi sana. kalau tengok2 balik, hmm, sape la aku kan, aku rasa ada yang lebih layak tapi da rezeki kan. harap2 semua nya berjalan lancar. by the way, ada 3 orang yang terpilih. seorang best student berdarah campur (Chindian), sorang lagi amoi dari sabah, dan aku. Universiti yang Prof cadangkan terletak di bandar Sapporro, dekat kepulauan Hokaido. yup, under Universiti of Sapporro City. Course elective yang ditawarkan pulak under Community Nursing.

MaMee SlurPPpp~~

2. BAHASA. ada dua orang jer lecturer yang tahu berbahasa Inggeris. so wajib la kiranya untuk kiteorang belajar cakap jepun. medical terms pulak tu. adoyai. setakat cakap 'aishiteru' tu aku pandai la~~

3. $$$$$  Kos sara hidup kat sana sangatlah tinggi. duit yang UKM bagi cukup untuk tiket kapal terbang ngan penginapan je plus makan minum sikit2. so tahun depan aku dah tak boleh shopping benda merepek2 dah.

4. COMMUNITY NURSING?? Kena ambik elektif Community Nursing. i opt for pediatric or critical care but oh well, community nursing is broad, so i got to practice peadiatric nursing as well, talking about killing two birds with a stone.!! tapi masalahnya dah nama pun komuniti nursing so kena la bercakap. jadi siapkan kamus!!

waaa...harap2 la semua berjalan lancar dan tak ada apa2 masalah. sebab ni la salah satu impian terbesar hidup aku. termakbul pulak tu. Ya Allah..may your blessing be my guidance...

ps: operasi menonton drama jepun bermula....Code Blue and Iryu Team Dragon!!

sakit jiwa..

slm...

tajuk entri ni tiada kaitan dengan aku..harap maklum...

hmm, minggu lepas merupakan minggu terakhir posting pediatrik. a lot of sweet memories, new experiences and cute faces will be treasured.  haha enough of peadiatric. sekarang nak cerita pasal modul terakhir untuk semester ni. MENTAL HEALTH.

mungkin istilah mental health ni agak asing sikit bagi segelintir masyarakat malaysia. haha, kalo cakap psikiatrik ataupun sakit jiwa pasti ramai yg akan berkata...."OOooooo...ckp le sakit mental, macam kat Tg Rambutan tu ek??..."   hehe, malu nak cakap. sebenarnya aku sendiri pun berpandangan sebegitu satu masa dulu. sekarang tak dah. dah open minded.

huuu, jujur aku cakap yang aku tak de perasaan excited langsung nak posting modul psikiatrik ni..(Ooops..Mental Health...), rasa takut adalah. huhu, aku memang tak berapa berani sangat dengan orang yang tak berfikiran waras ni, teringat pulak cerita senior pernah kena pukul dengan patient, lagi la aku fobia~~tapi kelas pertama berkaitan modul ni sedikit sebanyak membuka mata aku.

sebelum aku melalut jauh, baik aku cerita dulu apa faktor yang mengubah pandangan aku pada mental health. semestinya lecturer nya yang berkaliber. beliau pernah berkerja di UK selama...aaa..tak ingat berapa tahun, tapi lama la..lama sampai dia tak berapa fasih cakap bahasa Melayu. bak kata beliau ' my malay is as same as your english '  haha nampak sangat yang english kteorg tak berapa nak bagus..tapi tak pe lah, sekurang-kurangnya beliau jujur. lupa nak cakap, beliau berbangsa India, sebab tu tak fasih BM kot hehe..pandai2 jer aku ni, kene saman kang baru tau.

tapi yang aku respect sangat2 adalah cara beliau mengajar. pergh sebijik macam style luar negara. 2 ways communication. first time lecturer mengajar tanpa power point..hehe, kata beliau 'power point induce sleep..' hahah can't deny that! selain tu aku sangat hormat dengan ilmu yang beliau ada dan bahasa inggeris beliau yang sangat power. nasib baik aku boleh faham slang dia.

kecelaruan minda ke peta minda ni?? tak kesah la, asalkan aku dapat tangkap point penting ~~

menurut beliau, perkembangan mental health di Malaysia masih jauh lagi ketinggalan, dari segi menguruskan pesakit sampai la stigma masyarakat. masih tak berubah. misconception of mentally ill person as a crazy, violent and dangerous, that's is how we perceived them. sebenarnya, kalau nak tahu, semua orang pun ade risiko untuk dapat gangguan mental. nak lagi yang muda belia yang mana risiko bermulanya ketidakseimbangan emosi sangat tinggi.

so, berbalik kepada encik lecturer yang sangat saya hormati itu, beliau sedikit sebanyak membuka mata aku terhadap betapa besarnya peranan seorang jururawat dalam membantu pesakit yang mengalami gangguan mental dan emosi, as a counselor, an active listener and health advocator. malah, salah seorang psychiatrist di UKM yang beri kuliah kat kelas tadi pun mengaku yang "nurses assessment on mentally disturbed patient and involvement in providing and promoting wellness to them are as important  as our role, because they were there all the time."

i) hallucination :
false perception without stimulus. maksudnya membayangkan perkara yang tidak wujud tanpa kehadiran rangsangan. contohnya; nampak ade haiwan buas walaupun sebenarnya tak ada.

ii) illusion :
false perception with stimulus. membayangkan perkara tidak wujud dengan kehadiran rangsangan. contohnya: bayangkan tali sebagai ular, dengar bunyi angin seperti orang memanggil nama..

iii) delusion ;
fake, false strong belief with no support of concrete evidence. contohnya; yakin bahawa beliau pernah diculik alien, merasakan diri mereka nabi (haha, yang ni banyak dengar kan??), rasa diri terancam dan macam2 lagi.

setiap keadaan di atas tu boleh ditunjukkan atau dimanifestasikan oleh deria yang ada samada penglihatan, pendengaran, sentuhan, rasa dan bau. in other ways, it is decribe as distorted mental perception that associated with sensory modalities. sebab tu ada sesetengah orang yang mengaku mereka nampak, dengar, atau hidu sesuatu yang sebenarnya tak ada..

hmm, rasanye dah terlebih semangat menaip entri kali ni...mesti korg pun da boring baca. insyallah, next post nnt aku kongsi apa lagi ilmu yang menarik dalam modul mental health ni...kalau ada masa....

till then, everyone has mental issue, whether they keep it to themselves consciously or let the world know UNCONSCIOUSLY...
